Healthcare technology professionals understand the threats facing their organizations information systems, while non-technical professionals have less awareness, according to results of a recent survey of 400 professionals by security firm Trustwave. The views of the techies are compelling; a combination of understanding some threats but not others, and many of their organizations are not stepping up. Here are the takeaways.

The  results of a recent survey of 400 professionals by security firm Trustwave show that IT professionals are concerned by increased specifically targeted threats by criminals with intent to capture healthcare information that can be mined for identity theft reasons.

Respondents to the survey report anxiety levels of HIT professionals and threats increasing whereas budgetary constraints of most organizations limiting number of personnel and dollars allocated to HIT security. This dangerous combination of increasing threat and decreasing capital allocation makes healthcare a soft security target and may attract further increases in interest by cybercriminals
